GORGET-PLATES OF A CLOSE HELMET, LATE 19TH CENTURY IN THE INNSBRUCK STYLE OF THE MID-16TH CENTURY
comprising two lames front and rear, each having a scalloped upper edge punched with a single dot in each lobe, the lame lowest in each case formed with a file-roped inward turn and embossed in low relief at its centre with stylised foliage (lightly patinated overall)

A FINELY MADE MODEL BREASTPLATE BY H. RUSSELL ROBINSON OF THE TOWER OF LONDON ARMOURIES, CIRCA 1950-60, IN THE SOUTH GERMAN STYLE OF CIRCA 1450-60
formed of a main plate with a medial ridge and slight forward projection over the abdomen, boxed at each side, fitted at its shallow neck-opening with an applied stop-rib, pierced at its right arm-opening with four holes for the attachment of a lance-rest, and fitted within its lower edge with a waist-lame carrying a deep fauld of three upward-overlapping lames each decorated at it upper edge with a series of cusps, and formed in the case of the lower edge of the third, which has a shallow arched cut-out at its centre, with a plain inward turn (very lightly patinated overall)

The model is a based on a breastplate of late Kastenbrust fashion and probable Innsbruck manufacture preserved in the Museum der Stadt, Vienna, inv. no. 278. It was made by H. Russell Robinson who worked at the Tower of London Armouries from 1950 to 1978, and presented it to Arthur Richard Dufty, President of the Society of Antiquaries of London, 1978-81, and Master of the Armouries at the Tower of London, 1963-76, on his retirement from the latter post.

The title of this window is somewhat misleading. It probably refers to one of David's warriors, Adino: 'These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.' 2 Samuel 23:8-10.
