the blade shinogi-zukuri, tori-zori, iori-mune and ko-kissaki, itame-mokume hada, some tate-wari on both sides in the monouichi area, choji-midare hamon with shinogi in some areas and with tobi-yaki, sunagashi and kinsuji throughout, boshi with sunagaeshi, hakikake and a short kaeri and ubu nakago with single mekugi-ana, kuri-jiri and sujikai-yasuri and signed Soshu Ju Akihiro on the omote and Oan 7 (1374) on the ura

The style of dating is an idiosyncrasy of Akihiro, omitting the characters for both year and month.

the blade shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune and koshi-zori, mokume hada with some itame-gokoro, gunome-midare hamon in nioi becoming straighter in the monouichi area and missing in the kissaki (extensive flaw, nioi gire) and nakago with two mekugi-ana, kuri-jiri and signed (worn, possibly Osafune); with tachi koshirae comprising saya partly of leather pressed with a design of a dragon and partly with lacquer design of black and gold (worn), shakudo fittings with small highlights in gold, round iron tsuba mumei decorated with floral designs in brass, seppa (signed), and tsuka of black leather ito over black samé

A RARE SIAMESE NIELLO AND SILVER-GILT MOUNTED SWORD IN THE JAPANESE TASTE, 19TH CENTURY
with slightly curved blade double-edged towards the point and formed with two fullers of differing length, fitted with a habaki (blade collar) at its base, round brass sword guard formed in imitation of a Japanese tsuba and engraved with floral motifs, silver hilt decorated with gilt niello work of lai dok phuttan pattern and silver scabbard decorated en suite and formed with mounts in imitation of a Japanese kurikata and kashezuno (some scuffing, minor dents)

Swords made in the Japanese style were popular in Siam (Thailand) during the 17th-19th centuries and often served as diplomatic gifts. A similarly decorated sword presented to President James Buchanan by King Mongkut of Siam in 1861 as part of an exchange of gifts between the two leaders is preserved in the National Archives and Records Administration, Maryland, USA, Ident. No. 5923141.
